Sydney-based artist Wen Min Li depicts everyday objects with a wonderful almost naive quality. Her art explores space and time and the disconnect between her upbringing in traditional Chinese culture and life here in Australia. As a result Wen Min’s art is a very personal depiction of her life, with objects floating in a framework of traditional Chinese spatial simplicity.
Wen Min Li’s current exhibition, titled ‘The Flowers do not Answer’ is showing at the Flinders Street Gallery in Sydney. A friend of mine owns one of Wen Min’s works and it’s captivating – the subtleties are hard to capture in a photograph – so I’m looking forward to visiting the exhibition to take in her latest body of work.
