The warmth and personality of unfinished and undone walls is a refreshing antidote to the pristine whites of contemporary minimalism. Raw or whitewashed bricks, stripped back paint and peeled back wallpaper all create a big statement when paired with simple interior design. This trend is not about fusty, cluttered shabby chic (god forbid!), but the simple juxtaposition of key pieces of furniture and homewares set against walls with soul.
The unfinished and undone look can be subdued in palette, letting the texture shine, or it can celebrate random layers of mismatched but ultimately complimentary colours.
I just had to include the photo below… it’s not an interior as such, it’s a greenhouse in Calke Abbey Gardens, but oh my, that wall! Those plants!

What do you think of unfinished walls, would you incorporate this look into your home? Have you ever started to renovate and found layers of random beauty on the walls?
