An exercise in creating striking contrasts, the Figtree House – a Victorian terrace in Sydney – combines light and bright spaces for casual family living, with dramatic design and finishes in the formal spaces.
Interior designers Arent & Pyke have taken an intuitive approach to decorating this beautiful home, paying homage to its heritage with clever use of colour, texture and design, while creating a light-filled contemporary space that’s both functional and flexible for the needs of a young family.
The brief, according to Arent&Pyke principals Juliette Arent and Sarah-Jane Pyke, required “the spaces to evoke different moods … and reflect their purpose; from the composed inky solemnity of the intimate formal areas to the sun bleached lightness of the casual family spaces.”
We love the daring choice of combining a botanical wallpaper with the contemporary clean lives of white shelving to create a working space that’s anything but boring.
The deep inky tones on the walls in the formal living areas, meanwhile, are contrasted with white to highlight and enhance the beautiful heritage mouldings.
