Sydney-based Photographer Prue Ruscoe has a talent for capturing the essence of the quintessential contemporary Australian home. Any Australian who has lived overseas or spent a considerable amount of time out of the country will tell you that the quality of light is unique here. It’s this clarity and intensity that is evident in Prue’s photos.
So what is the quintessential modern Australian home? It features bright open spaces that engage with the landscape, and a flow of light, air and sun that works in harmony with our climate.
Cool crisp predominantly white spaces are an antidote to our often harsh summers. The addition of wood, indoor plants and natural finishes add texture and warmth without visual weight. That notion of being light-hearted and free spirited is what we’re all about.
I think Prue Ruscoe does an amazing job in capturing the essence of these homes. The architecture, the interiors and the light are so perfectly modern Australian to my mind. In stark contrast to this is the grand home featured in yesterday’s post – which, to me, is just so English! Would you agree?
