My dream kitchen has space for sitting (in reality my kitchen barely has space for standing!), and the idea of perching on stools in front of a window, cafe-style, seems like a lovely idea.
In this elegant kitchen the matte black cupboards and stainless steel are complimented by the warmth of the rustic wooden floors and the timber in the eat-in space. Add some plants and unadorned white walls into the mix, and this black kitchen – sans splashback (or backsplash if you’re in the US) – is the essence of simple elegance.
The owners of this apartment haven’t compromised on having a decent sized kitchen. By extending the cabinetry out into the adjacent space a table and chairs were no longer an option, but a cafe-style bench with stools becomes a cool space saving solution. With a formal dining table in the living area, the kitchen window seating is perfect for breakfast in the sun, kids’ homework, and hanging out during meal prep time.
It’s easy to imagine enjoying breakfast, a weekend cup of tea and magazines, or sitting with a laptop working in front of the window. It could also easily become a functional space for a part time home office with built in storage under the bench.
